A History of Transformation

Our Legacy of Innovation & Excellence

  • 1947

    Building Service, Inc founded as an acoustical ceiling and installation company.

  • 1964

    By 1964, BSI became a complete interior construction company - offering walls, flooring, finish carpentry, painting and lighting.

  • 1969

    Began offering furniture services through a partnership with Herman Miller.

  • 1985

    Nine employees acquired a 49% ownership stake in the company through a buyout of the original founder.

  • 1990

    Expanded team to include flooring installation in-house.

  • 1993

    BSI moved from 108th Place location to 100,000 sq ft facility on Carmen Avenue

  • 1998

    BSI became one of the first dealerships to join the Herman Miller Certified Dealer network.

  • 2002

    New shareholders invest in BSI.

  • 2003

    BSI opens North Office in Appleton, WI.

  • 2013

    BSI moves Corporate Office to Cheaney Road in Waukesha, WI.

  • 2016

    Audio Visual Technology Integration added to BSI Services.

  • 2020

    Supported launch of SMART SPACES, LLC - an MBE Certified Audio Visual Integration Company.

  • 2022

    BSI celebrates 75 Years in business and opens new office in Madison, WI.
